Protein misfolding and deposition is of aetiological importance to a number of diseases characteristic of aging (such as amyloid diseases) and may be of central importance to the aging process itself. There are over 30 misfolding and depositional disorders.
Our research strategy is based on our technology platform and our expertise in developing specific inhibitors of protein deposition. We develop therapeutic compounds aimed at decreasing and even reversing the progression of protein misfolding diseases, not merely treating symptoms.
Our approach is two pronged:
nose ring jewelry, lip piercings, body jewelry Therapeutics: development of therapeutic monoclonal antibodies and other compounds to stop the progression of the disease by reducing the toxicity caused by aggregation.
Theranostics: development of suitable biomarkers for these conditions, with potential in the diagnostic and testing of therapeutic efficacy of new drugs.
Our research programmes are focused on three significant protein misfolding diseases:
Type 2 Diabetes
Parkinson’s disease
Alzheimer’s disease |
